Shibuyunji Town Council, through its Department of Health Services, has launched the African Vaccination Week, which will run from 13th to 20th May 2025.

The event is being supported by Project Concern Zambia in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

Speaking during the commemoration, Mr Sitali Kumayo, who represented the Director of Health Services, welcomed all invited guests and thanked them for their presence.

He emphasised the importance of immunisation in protecting the health of the community.

Dr Ziko Luunga, the Program Director for Project Concern Zambia, gave a message of support and encouraged parents and guardians to ensure that their children receive all recommended vaccines.

He said immunisation is one of the most effective ways to prevent diseases and save lives.The Chief Representative , Mr Obister Shalupa, also gave remarks.

He encouraged continued collaboration between stakeholders to increase vaccine coverage and awareness in the district.

The Council Chairperson, Mr Adrian Mwanakanyemba, who was the guest of honour, officially launched the vaccination week under the theme “Immunisation for All: Humanly Possible.”

He highlighted the importance of vaccinating children and especially girls aged 9, who are eligible for the second and third doses of the HPV vaccine to protect them against cervical cancer.“

Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to vaccines, no matter where they live,” he said.The event was well attended by councillors, the council secretary Mr Stephen Malenga, heads of government departments, council staff, and members of the community.

Activities for the week will include community outreach, school visits, and mobile vaccination campaigns aimed at reaching all eligible people
