Shibuyunji Town Council Chairperson Mr. Adrian Mwanakanyemba has called for a stronger, community-led HIV and AIDS response as the district commemorated World AIDS Day under the theme “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response!” Addressing residents, health workers, and traditional leaders, Mr Mwanakayemba highlighted the strain caused by the withdrawal of major donor funding, including USAID, saying clinics and outreach programmes are now operating with limited resources. He urged communities, local leaders, and businesses to take a more active role in HIV prevention and support services. The Chairperson emphasised ending stigma, improving prevention efforts such as PrEP and condom use, and supporting frontline health workers who remain central to the response. He affirmed that Zambia, under President Hakainde Hichilema, is still on track to meet the target of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Mr Mwanakayemba concluded with a message of unity, noting that despite financial disruptions, Shibuyunji can build a stronger, self-sustaining HIV response through collective action.
